Question for the Week:
What do plants need and where do we find them?

Weekly Foundational Read-Aloud: 
The Curious Garden by Peter Brown

Questions to ask your child in response to the read-aloud:
  • Do you think the people in the city felt different after there were many gardens and plants growing in the city? Why or why not?
  •       How do plants and gardens make you feel?

  

Learn at Home activity for today:

Thursday: 
 Patterns
Clap a simple pattern, and invite your child to clap it back to you (e.g. two slow claps followed by 3 faster claps). Take turns creating the pattern.

Open ended questions:
·               I notice that you ____. 
·               What do you notice? 
·                If I want to ____, what should I do? 
·               Tell me about ____. 
·               How do you know? 
·               Tell me why ___.


Continued Weekly Activity

Parents and children can find and observe a plant together. They can talk about what the plant looks like, parts of the plants, how it smells, the way it feels etc. After observing the plant children can write or draw about it. Please email the writing / drawings to MrsGonzalezCOVID19@gmail.com

I will be calling parents twice a week to check in.  If you would like to share any resources with other families, please let me know and I will add it to the blog!

Scholastic Learn at Home - The website offers multiple days of content including read-alouds, movement activities, STEM activities, drawing activities, building activities, etc.  

One of the parents suggested to set up a free Zoom account and have one family member or friend teach their child something new each day via a Zoom call!

·               The book says that Liam didn’t feel like a gardener at first but after a while he did. Why do you think that happened?
·               Other people in the city decided to be gardeners too. Why do you think they wanted to be gardeners?



Learn at Home activity for today:

                           Wednesday: 
 Empty Box
If available, provide an empty cardboard box big enough for your child to sit in. Invite your child to use their imagination to turn the box into something else. If desired, they could also decorate the box. Celebrate all of their ideas and engage in imaginative play with them around their ideas.


Open ended questions:
·               Who are you going to be today? 
·               I wonder what would happen if ____? 
·               What will you do next? 
·               What do you think about ____? 
·               What does that remind you of?
