Week of October 3rd!!

WEEKLY REMINDERS

 

  • Please return Picture money envelopes to the classroom teacher before Tuesday, October 3rd

  • Tuesday, October 4th - Chancellor Banks and Superintendent Deegan Visit to OLQM 

  • Wednesday, October 5-  Individual Picture Day Students may wear dress-up clothes No jeans, teddy bears, or hats!
  • Reminder that Dismissal is at 2:45 PM
  • Please make sure your child has an extra change of clothes. 
  • Please bring in a picture of your family for us to hang on our family tree!

  Welcome to Pre-K

   What is Pre-K?

 Focused Learning Activity for this Week:

                           

Building Tour

 

The teacher will invite students to go on a field trip around the pre-K program. The children will be introduced to program support staff and have them share how they are helpful.

 

For children who need additional support: 

 The teacher will Invite various building staff members to come to the class and talk to the group about who they are and what they do. She will then show the pictures of the adults to the children when the adult comes in.

 

For children who are ready for a challenge

The teacher will have children carry the pictures of the adults, give them clipboards and paper and have them draw or write the names of the people they see. Some children may want to know how to spell the names of the people they meet on tour. Other children will be encouraged to note and/or write some of the sounds they hear in each person’s name.

 

ELL:

The students will be given directions in Spanish. the teacher will translate or ask the person to speak in Spanish.

PK.SEL.3 Demonstrates and continues to develop positive relationships with significant adults (primary caregivers, teachers, and other familiar adults)

Level 1: Recall

When does the dad in this story go to work? 

What is the dad’s job? What does he do? 

 

Level 2: Skill/Concept 

The dad in this story is the school custodian. He keeps the building clean. What are some ways you help keep our classroom and building clean? 

Who are the other people in our building that help keep it clean? 

 

Level 3: Strategic Thinking 

Why is it important to keep our classroom and our pre-K building clean? 

A custodian keeps a building clean. ____ keeps our building clean. Who are some other people that help make our pre-K a nice place to be? 

 

Level 4: Extended Thinking 

How do you think the boy in this story feels about going to work with his dad? Why do you think he feels that way? 

Have you ever gone to work with a grown-up? What did you do? What did you think about that? 

  

Learning Centers Available for the Unit: 

 

Dramatic Play -The children will be invited to explore the dramatic play center. The teacher will point out where the props and dress-up clothes can be found in the dramatic play. The shelves and containers will be labeled with props and dress-up clothes for children to put away.

 

Blocks- The children will be invited to explore the blocks center.  The teacher will introduce wooden unit blocks (many sizes and shapes) and where they can be found. The shelves will be labeled with the unit blocks for students to find and put away.

 

Art- The children will be invited to explore the art center.

The teacher will be in the art center modeling how to use art materials and pointing where the materials below on the shelves.

 

Science- The children will be invited to explore the science center. The teacher will introduce natural objects (rocks, shells, and pinecones), and how to use magnifying glasses, and magnets. The shelves and containers will be labeled with the materials for students to put away.

 

Math- The children will be invited to explore the math center. The teacher will introduce various manipulatives. The teacher will show students where it can be found and how to put it away. 

 

Library-The children will be invited to explore the library center. The teacher will model how to turn the pages of a book and how to take good care of books.

 

Writing-The children will be invited students to explore the writing center. The teacher will introduce the tools in the writing center.

The shelves and containers will be labeled with the materials for students to put away.

 

Sensory-The children will be invited to explore the sensory center.  The teacher will introduce children to the tools in the writing center. The shelves and containers will be labeled with the materials for students to put away.
