Week of June 6th!!

WEEKLY REMINDERS

 

• Due to the uptick in Covid cases, there are a few changes that 

were made regarding the in-person celebrations.

 

• There is No Afterschool Program every Friday in 

June.  Please pick your child up between 2:45 and 3:00.

 

• Wednesday , June 8th, 10:00am- End of Year "Moving Up 

Ceremony" in the gymnasium. two (2) Adults are Permitted per

Child. Students are to arrive at school at 9:15am and they go

home to celebrate with their families after the performance.

 

• Friday, June 17th, 9:00am- Father's Day celebration will be 

held via Zoom. I will send the ID number the day before. 

 

• School is closed on Monday, June 20th in observance

of Juneteenth.

 

• June 23rd is the last full day of classes.

 

• Dismissal on June 24th is at 12:00 pm.  

There is no after-school program on that day.  

The 8th grade will be graduating and if your child attends, they 

will go down to the church to watch the 8th-grade

graduation.

Focused Learning Activity for this Week

              

            Animal Baby Investigations

The teacher will work with students in the writing center. She will supply students with pictures and informational books about animal babies. The teacher will assist students in choosing an animal they would like to know more about to create a book about baby animals.

 PK.ELAL.17. [PKW.6] Develops questions and participates in shared research and exploration to answer questions and to build and share knowledge (e.g., record and discuss an experiment of items that float and sink)

Questions that will be asked throughout the week related to the foundational text:

 

Level 1: Recall 

What did Leonard find in the park? Where was Buster’s family? 

 

Level 2: Skill/Concept 

What kind of animal is Buster? How do you know? 

How did Leonard feel about Buster? How do you know? 

As Buster got bigger and bigger, he seemed to enjoy himself less and less. Why do you think that happened? 

Level 3: Strategic Thinking 

How do you think Leonard felt when he found the egg? Tell me more about that. 

How do you think Leonard felt when Buster hatched from the egg? Tell me more about that. 

How do you think Leonard felt when Buster was too big to live with him anymore? Tell me more about that. 

 

Level 4: Extended Thinking 

What were some of the ways Leonard took care of Buster? How would you take care of a dinosaur if you found a dinosaur egg in the park? 

Leonard took Buster everywhere with him. Where would you take him if he lived with you? Why? 

Leonard had to say goodbye to Buster. Have you ever had to say goodbye to someone you cared about? How did you feel? 

 

   Lessons and Activities for the Week:

 

Blocks- Students will be invited to use blocks to create a nursery.

 

Dramatic Play -The teacher will invite children to turn the Dramatic Play area into a pediatrician’s office.

 

Art-Students are invited to create their own baby portraits with a variety of art materials.

 

Science-Students will be able to play a matching game, matching the adult animal to its offspring.

 

Math-Cutouts of babies of various lengths will be added to the math center.  Students will be able to measure each baby and tell which is the longest and shortest.

 

Library- Students are invited to read books about our theme, babies.

 

Writing-Cards will be supplied with pictures of animal babies as well as their names. They will be placed in a bin for children to reference as they create their own animal baby book.

 

Sensory-Students will be able to give babies a bath with their own containers and consider why babies need help to wash or take a bath.
