Week of October 26th





October Theme – Clothes

The students will continue to learn about clothing. This week we will be exploring different types of fabrics, clothing features, and how people make clothes. The students will create their own clothing piece in the art center.

Lessons and activities for the week:

Art –Students will design a clothing piece.
Math – Students will be able to sort buttons by color.
Pretend Play – Students will have multiple clothing sets of different cultures to dress dolls and themselves.
Writing - Students will be able to draw a picture of their favorite articles of clothing.
Blocks –Students will be able to create a pattern with wooden blocks.


Reminders:

A 20-minute informational parent-meeting will be held this Tuesday, October 27th at 8:30am.  The meeting will be held in the parent conference room on the first floor.  We will briefly discuss the curriculum.

Students arriving after 8:00am are marked late.

Parents are welcomed to come to our Halloween Parade on Friday, October 30th. Students may come to school dressed in their Halloween costumes!

During drop off time in the mornings, it is school policy that parents are to remain outside of the classroom.

Week of October 5th

October Theme: Clothes 
This month the students will be discussing the fall season and observing the changes that this time of the year brings . This months theme will be clothing. Clothing is a perfect medium to learn colors, size, numbers and texture. The students clothing investigation will help students use skills in literacy, math, science, technology and the arts. 


Math: Measure clothes with counting cubes
Science: White socks experiment 
Art: Clothing collage 
Writing: Draw your favorite clothing item
Blocks: Find the shapes in the quilt 
Library: Clothing books

Week of September 28th


Week of September 28th

Students will continue to explore the theme of friendship and families. We will also discuss what makes a good friend and how our classroom rules apply to the theme.

Science: Students will work in small groups to mix paint and explore how many colors they can make.

Blocks: Students will play with wooden blocks to work with his/her friends

Art : Students will draw and/or write his/her best friend.

Math: The students will use play dough to create tacos or anything they choose to do with his/her classmates.

Writing: Students will create cards for his/her friends and/or family

Flynn and O'Hara Uniform Company
There are forms available in the office for Flynn and O'Hara uniform company. Parents should remember that they must tell the company if they are ordering by phone or e-mail that their child attends Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in New York City.

September Theme: All about me 

Students will learn all about themselves and their classmates while collaborating with one another. Other daily activities such taking attendance, using daily pictorial schedule, learning centers and sign in name cards  will reinforce the learning objectives for the “All about me” theme.

Math: Create an eye color chart

Science: Identify body parts

Literacy: Create a “All about me” book

Song: Head, Shoulders,Knees and Toes

Blocks: How many rectagular blocks tall are you ?

Art: Draw/paint  a self-portrait

Welcome to PreK-3!

                                                        

Welcome to Pre-k 3. I hope you had a great summer. I would like to take this time to introduce myself. My name is Rosandy Sanchez. I am very excited to be your child’s teacher for the upcoming school year.

I worked as a pre-k teacher for approximately 5 years. This is my first year teaching at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School. I graduated from St. Joseph’s college with Bachelors of Arts in Childhood Education. This fall I will be starting the Literacy graduate program at Lehman College. My primary goal is to provide a challenging, educational and interactive learning atmosphere, while building self esteem and confidence for students to become productive members of society. I have high expectations for all my students and believe that all students can be successful learners. I am looking forward to meeting you and your child. Together we can make this year the best year possible for your precious little ones!

Below you will find a list of supplies your child will be needing throughout the year. Your help in donating these items is greatly appreciated.  Furthermore, your donations are not limited to just the beginning of the year. Feel free to send items in whenever possible.
