Please Read all the Reminders
· Under New York State and City Health codes all Pre-K and Kindergarten students are required to have an annual Flu shot by December 1st. Students will be required to remain at home until proof is provided that your child has received the Flu vaccine.
· Ugly Sweater Day Contest on Thursday, December 16th
· Please bring in a picture of your family for us to hang on our family wall!
· Please remember to send sleeping mats to school.
· Seesaw accounts have been set up for all students. You can find your child’s access code on an index card located in the Home-School Connection folder.

Focused Learning Activity for the Week
The children will be provided with empty milk cartons, paint, paint brushes, tape, glue, markers, foam shapes etc. Children can use writing utensils to transform their milk cartons into pretend homes for people and animals.
The children will be invited to roll a die and then write the numeral on their home.

PK.SCI.11. Develops a simple sketch, drawing, or physical model to illustrate how the shape of an object helps it function as needed to solve a given problem

Questions that will be asked throughout the week related to the foundational text:
Level 1: Recall
Where is the boy moving?
Where is the girl moving?
Both the boy and the girl are nervous they will miss things from their old cities when they move to their new cities. What are some of the things they think they will miss?
Level 2: Skill/Concept
Do you think the boy and the girl will still be able to do the things they love in their new cities? Why or why not?
After the boy and the girl move to their new cities and learn about the things they can do there, how do you think they will feel? Why?
Level 3: Strategic Thinking
What do you think the boy might tell the girl about New York City? Why?
What do you think the girl might tell the boy about Mexico City? Why?
Level 4: Extended Thinking
Have you ever moved to a new place? Maybe a new home? Or to a place that was far away from your old home? How did you feel about moving? Why?
What are some of the things you like about where you live now? What would you miss if you moved?
Lessons and Activities for the Week:
Blocks-Children will be provided with pictures of different types of homes and buildings in block center. Children will be encouraged to discuss what shapes they can use to recreate the structures.
Art-Children will be supplied with popsiclesticks in order for them to create a home by gluing sticks onto paper.
Science-Children will be able to identify the different habitats that animals live in. Children will be encouraged to use pictures to match the animals to the habitats.
Math- Children will be provided with people figures, number cards, and pictures of homes which will be placed in the math center. Students will be encouraged to pick a number card, and place the corresponding number of people into a car.
Library- Students are encouraged to look at two non-fiction books about homes and compare and contrast what they see.
Writing- Students will discover blueprints and create their own blueprint with write and wipe blueprint mats.
Sensory- Students will be able to play with their individual containers of play-doh.
